Craniofacial Surgery
Dr. Douglas Sinn has been an active member of the Craniofacial Team for over 30 years. Currently, the team operates at Medical City Children’s Hospital of Dallas. He participates with a pediatric neurosurgeon and pediatric plastic surgeon on a weekly basis in reconstructive surgery for children with congenital and acquired deformities. This “team approach” assures the best outcome for kids with these difficult problems. He also teaches and operates at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for other types of craniofacial and maxillofacial reconstructions.
Craniofacial surgery requires this “team approach” of surgical specialists due to the complex nature of the surgery. Plastic surgeons and Dr. Doug Sinn, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon deal with deformities of the skull, either acquired or congenital. They treat children with cranial facial deformities such as craniosynostosis, clefts, Treacher Collins Syndrome, Glodenhar Syndrome, hemifacial microsomia, Apert’s Syndrome, and Crouzon’s Syndrome.
There are significant correlations between changes in appearance and changes in self-esteem and social anxiety. Improvement in appearance brought about by craniofacial surgery can result in improvement in psychosocial development in children. Simply said, the reward for Dr. Doug Sinn is knowing that the psychological burden will be less for these kids.
